Some Frequently asked Questions

Q: What type of finish do you put on the doors?
A: We use a Marine Grade Spar Urethane with a UV blocker....this is an oil base which means it will last longer than a water based Acrylic, (that one of my competitors use)

Q: Can you refinish anything else, such as furniture?
A: We could, but we stick to our core business which is refinishing doors. My philosophy is to pick one thing, and be very good at it.....which we are!

Q: How long have you been refinishing?
A: I was raised in the back shop of a piano business, working on pianos when I was 11...I am 55 now...you can do the math. I have had numerous refinishing shops over the years, refinishing everything from
tables to Dining room sets, to rebuilding a Horse Drawn Hearse from the 1800's. Rebuilt Antiques, Jukeboxes, and Slot machines. You name it

Q: How long does it take to refinish a door?
A: Under normal circumstances it should take approximately
3-4 hours to refinish a single side door. I have personally taken down, refinished and re-hung an 8' door in 2 hours (by myself) but I'm pretty awesome though!

Q: Why would it take longer?
A: Stripping extra coats of finish off may slow us down, shellac, multiple layers of paint, excessive damage, or refinishing more than one door.

Q: Should I polish my door after you're done, to help it last longer?
A: No, using waxes or polishes that has silicone or wax in it could hinder future refinishing. When we strip the finish, the silicones or waxes from the polishes that are on the door, soaks in the wood, causing whats known as fish eyes (dimples) in the finish. The silicone acts like a repellent and is trying to push the finish around like water on a piece of wax paper This could prevent a smooth finish. Older homes such as those in the Heights have more of a chance of having Silicone in the finish.

Q: What should I use to clean it then?
A: I recommend using a slightly water dampen cloth. If you need something stronger than water, use Windex or a mild cleaner, but be quick with it, don't leave it on too long.

Q: Are you Bonded?
A: Yes

Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes, for $1,000.000

Q: Do you refinish stain glass doors?
A: We can refinish any door, we mask off all glass so as not to damage it

Q: Do you install doors?
A: No, I cut a board three times and it was STILL too short....You do NOT want me cutting on your door! lol

Q: Why is there a gap at the top of my door?
A: With time, your door will start to sag because of it's weight. The hinges could be bending out of shape, the hinge screws may need to be tightened or in some instances, the casing that holds the hinges may be working itself loose. We will adjust your door when we re-install it. 99% of the time we can get your door closing normally again.

Q: What form of payments do you take?
A: Cash, Check, Credit Cards thru PayPal

Q: Are you a member of the BBB?
A: Yes we are, with an A rating

Q: How did you win the Angies List, Super Service

Award for Exc
ellence?
A:Because we're AWESOME!

OK I was joking, no one asked me that,
(But we are awesome!)

But I have been asked what our
Rating
 is with
Angies List, and I told them an A, which it still is!

Q: Why do you have an A Rating?
A: We have a commitment to take care of ALL problems no matter what the cost is to us. I have actually lost money to solve a problem that wasn't our fault. In Clear Lake, an elderly couple on a fixed income couldn't open their door very easily. We had previously refinished their door 6 months earlier, so in desperation they called Jessica and she sent a crew to their home to see what the problem was. The craftsman saw that the handle was breaking because it was the lever type. These types tend to break faster. The Craftsman called me not knowing what to do, because the broken handle had nothing to do with us. I told him to go ahead and buy a new handle from Home Depot and fix the problem. The whole repair cost me 2 men, 2 hours, plus the $49.00 handle.....The point is that we do what ever it takes to make you happy....Period!

Q: Do you have any contract work?
A: We are the exclusive door Maintenance Company for Heritage Grand, a 55+ Seniors only subdivision in Cinco Ranch with 660 homes.
(We put 2 maintenance coats and change the weather strip on each door every 2 years)
