Cory and Jason came out on 10/3/11. They arrived on time and got right to work. I was very happy with the quality of their workmanship. I had the front side refinished along with two extra coats of UV protecting. Cory and Jason worked hard. I had them add a cushion strip to correct the gap between the door and the frame. Cory went above and beyond to create a perfect fitting door. I now have a better looking and working door then before their visit. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a beautiful door.

I then selected the stain. They removed the door, covered the opening with plastic. Wind blew around the taping and I had to secure my small dogs so they would not exit. I opted for the extra coating on the door since my door gets a great deal of sunlight, and also took the weather stripping. With the coupon the extra coating and weather stripping was $120. I had purchased new hardware for the door and they installed it without charge. Member Comments: Very positive service. Would use Ricks again. Door looks beautiful, better than new. |

Contacted them to come refinish my front door.
They actually answered the phone when I called, I had tried multiple other companies for over a year with no response. They promptly scheduled me for 3 days later when they would be in my area (Katy). They stated they would arrive between 11am and 1pm and said it could take up to 5 hrs. They stated the charge would be $275, no tax. Bottom weatherstripping replacement was included if needed. Member Comments:
They arrived withing the stated period (towards the end), but not late! 2 men arrived, 1 was in training. They parked on the street and configured traffic cones to guide traffic around their work area which was behind their van and put up approx (10'x10') sun shade. Temperature outside was 100+.
They first came to the door and did a quick inspection of the latches, hinges, and weather stripping. After doing a quick look at the old (un-faded) color around the edges as a reference. My door was 5yrs old since new, and had not been done. They then asked if I wanted "Armor Coat" which is 2 extra coats of UV Urethane for an extra $50. I opted to do this since it might be another 5 yrs. They provided a coupon that would actually knock the price down (I don't remember how much though). After agreeing on the service they offered to inspect the other home doors for weather stripping, latches, hinges. I had them do this. They showed me how the wrong weather stripping (WS) had been installed on my back door and was letting in a lot of heat at the top, I had them fix this also and they had a combo coupon for the Armor Coat and new WS. New WS would be an extra $99. They inspected my garage door also and noted its un-squareness and offered insight as to why it was happening and how to correct it, which I was able to do myself. They removed my front door hardware and then removed it from the hinges and took it to their work area. They taped a piece of plastic over the entry (100+ degrees out). They first replaced the WS on the back door, which seemed to include some training. They discovered why the wrong WS had been installed due to catching on the door. They devised a better method to use the correct WS without leaving a gap as had been originally installed. During the time the WS for the back was being installed this meant the wind could blow through the house if not for the plastic on the front door. The taping job on the front door was not done very well only in spots around the perimeter so still had nearly full outdoor hot airflow into the house and didn't hold in the normal daily breeze. Rather then holding them up while they were stripping the door, I re-taped this myself to seal the openings. They stripped and cleaned the door, all glass masked off. After a drying period they hand stained the door. After another drying period, back under the shade they began spraying the Urethane top coats. They used a low pressure high volume system that seems to work very well. After a drying period they returned and re-installed the hardware and the door. They checked all the hardware for operation. They instructed to leave the door cracked until the evening due to the tackiness of the finish and not wanting it to stick around the perimeter. They installed a rolled butcher paper covering over the door entry, which they did do a very thorough perimeter taping of this cover. The paper needed to remain in place for 3 days to shield the door from direct sun light during the initial curing time. There was some odor from the drying coating, but I'd rate this as being at a pretty low level. Over all it took about 4.5 hours. for everything. I uncovered the paper and the door is beautiful, probably better than when it was new. Very pleased with the results, we will have to see how it holds up with time. The only improvement would be more diligence on getting the opening sealed while performing the service. In the end with the coupon they knocked off $30 so the final bill was $275 + $50 +$99 -$30 = $394 |

Description Of Work: Rick's Front Door came out refinish my front door along with 3 of my neighbor's doors in a "block party" promotion where we each received a discounted price of $270, instead of the standard $300. The crew of 2 removed my door to a makeshift table set up in my driveway, taped up paper to cover the door opening, sanded and coated the front side of the door, replaced the weather stripping, reattached the door, and re-taped paper to the front door opening to block the sun from the newly refinished door. The crew and office staff were friendly, helpful, and responsive.
Member Comments: We wanted the work done on a Friday morning so we had to wait a couple of weeks for an open appointment. About a week prior to our appointment, Jessica called to confirm an appointment for the following day as she had listed our appointment in two different time slots. Fortunately our original appointment was still blocked off for us so their error had no effect on our project. About 7:30 on the day of our appointment, Cory, the owner's son, and his helper (Antonio??) called to say they couldn't find my house. It turns out that he had written down the address wrong so it took them about 15 more minutes to arrive. Once they did arrive, they immediately began unloading their tools and setting up. Thet removed my door and taped up previously used paper along the doorframe with duct tape. I wasn't too impressed with the "sealing" of the doorframe, as the paper was only taped up in a handful of places which came untaped several times, not at all like the expertly sealed door in the picture on their website. As well, there were many sections where it wasn't taped that would open quite far when a breeze would blow. I actually had to resecure the tape myself several times while they were here. I watched some of their work from my second floor window and all seemed in order (they had all 4 doors laid out on tables and were working on them all at once). After we had handled the payment and signed the paperwork (4ish hours later), they rehung my door and cleaned up the driveway. They instructed me to leave the door ajar until the end of the night for the coating to dry, which was different from what I was told by Jessica when I made the appointment - she said the door would be completely functional when they were done. As well, Cory taped up a piece of paper to the door frame (not touching the door) to block sun from the door which he said could cause the finish to bubble. He suggested leaving the paper cover up for 3 days while the door "cured". Neither was a big deal as I had planned to be home for the rest of that day and we could use the garage door to come and go for 3 days, but this was not mentioned on their website or when I had discussed the project with Jessica, and they left extra pieces of duct tape on my mailbox which I found really annoying. Mine was the only one of the 4 doors that they covered; perhaps my door was more likely to get direct sun than my neighbor's, but I still found that odd. Also odd was the brief conversation I had with Cory as I was signing the paperwork; I don't remember how it started (maybe I asked him how long he had been refinishing doors), but he made several comments indicating that he may be leaving Rick's because his dad wasn't paying him enough, that he was being paid by the door instead of the hour (or something like that), and that he hasn't had a raise in years. It was far too much dirty laundry for me. When my husband got home we inspected the door a little further. The wood looked shiny and much, much better than it had, but they did nothing to clean the glass insert, even to get the excess stain that they used off of it. This didn't really surprise me, as it wasn't listed in their process, but they could/should have cleaned off the dropped stain. The weather stripping wasn't attached very well either as there are several gaps where there doesn't appear to be any glue holding it in place and it just looks like it was applied as an afterthought. Overall we were pleased with the results for the price, but they could have done a lot better with just a little more attention to the details.

Description Of Work: Company refinished my front door, 2 side-lights, transom and trim. They replaced weather stripping around the door. Change out the hardware also. This was all completed in approximately 4 hours and done in my driveway. My door has been restored back to beautiful! The tech's were very professional. I would recommend this company for sure.
